Trine University - U Can Crush Hunger 10/31/24
Thursday, October 31, 2024
Thanks to Trine University's Caleb Gonya and Bill Milnes for joining WLKI's Andy St. John.
The Trine University community wants to raise more than 40,000 pounds of food for The Fremont Youth and Community Outreach Food Pantry, Project Help, along with the Community Harvest Food Bank during this year’s U Can Crush Hunger Campaign which runs through November 8.
Held since 2015, the annual U Can Crush Hunger Campaign is a friendly competition between eight area colleges and universities to raise money and collect food for the Community Harvest Food Bank. In addition to Trine, Huntington University, Indiana Tech, Indiana University Fort Wayne, Ivy Tech, Manchester University, Purdue Fort Wayne and the University of Saint Francis are holding their own drives.
Each campus has set up collection areas and each has a direct link to donate to their food drive. Every dollar donated provides five pounds of food.

Trine has collection boxes for canned goods set up in the Steel Dynamics Inc. Center for Engineering and Computing, the Thunder Ice Arena, the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center, as well as Elemento in downtown Angola.
The annual drive helps Community Harvest provide meals to thousands of northeast Indiana families during the holidays. It also supports food pantries on college campuses for students struggling with food insecurity.
Established in 1983, Community Harvest Food Bank is the regional food bank for northeast Indiana, serving Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells and Whitley counties.
$1=5 pounds of food donated!
