ANGOLA – NIPSCO is starting pipeline work along S. Wayne St.

The City of Angola announced on Tuesday, June 14 NIPSCO is beginning work on S. Wayne St. for “a temporary fix to the greater issue of natural gas supply to our area.”

The project will take place from mid-June until November with work beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.

NIPSCO states the work will be to install approximately 1.4 miles of new 12” natural gas pipeline along S. Wayne Street between W 150 S and Fake Lake Road.

In addition to the gas pipeline a new gas regulator station will be built at Old U.S. Highway 27, W 150 S, and S Kankamp Road.

NIPSCO wanted to make the public aware of additional traffic within these routes and to be prepared to stop and be aware of work trucks, employees and contracted agents.

The purpose of the project is to provide additional gas capacity to Trine University, to the new Steuben County judicial center and to nearby residential complexes.

The project has come at the request of a third-party customer to provide the additional gas for the projects.

The benefits of the extension of the pipeline are to strengthen the natural gas availability in the area and add an additional layer of protection to the system with advanced technological enhancements.
