STEUBEN COUNTY — A Nebraska man was killed Tuesday evening after his semitruck overturned on US 20 near C.R. 20 N in Jackson Township.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the accident where they found the semitruck and trailer hauling steel on its side north of the roadway with the driver’s side door open and the driver unresponsive partially outside the vehicle.

Deputies and a bystander rendered first aid until Steuben County Emergency Medical Service arrived, but “despite all of the life saving efforts utilized, the driver could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene,” the Sheriff’s Office report said.

The driver was identified as Thomas J. Jamrock, 62, of Omaha, Nebraska. He was driving west on U.S. 20 in a blue 2012 Freightliner semi pulling a Great Dane box trailer loaded with wire.

At the curve near C.R. 20 N, his vehicle left the roadway “due to apparent excessive speed,” the report said.

Jamrock then collided with the guardrail overturned near an embankment.

Reports state the weather was clear, the roadway was dry and alcohol is not believed to be a factor, the report said. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Indiana State Police, Orland Fire Department, Steuben County Coroner’s Office, and Steuben County EMS also assisted at the scene.
