CENTREVILLE, Mich. – St. Joseph County Animal Control recently received a significant donation.

St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says he is pleased to announce a donation to Animal Control of $200,000 from the estate of David Ritzer. Ritzer’s family, Stephanie and Terry Strawbridge made the presentation on behalf of Ritzer, who passed away in 2020.

Ritzer was a long-time resident of the county, a respected member of the business community, and champion of animals in need. Bingaman says Ritzer was known through his business, and was well-known and respected in the law enforcement community.

Bingaman says they are grateful and privileged to have this way of keeping his memory alive.

The donated funds are being managed through the St. Joseph County United Way and will be used for facility upgrades and equipment. The Sheriff’s Office is grateful to United Way Executive Director Kelly Hostetler for her assistance with this project. Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund may contact the St. Joseph County United Way.

Bingaman says support from members of the community is always appreciated, but being remembered by someone as part of their legacy is the ultimate honor.
