The Steuben County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred over the weekend. On Saturday February 1st, 2025 just before 6:30 pm, Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported vehicle fire on SR 120 near CR 525 W in rural Milgrove Township.
When Initial responding deputies arrived, they located a single passenger vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the north side of SR 120 near a large concrete post.
Initial investigation indicated that the vehicle had been involved in a crash. Witnesses indicated that the silver 2024 Toyota Camry had been traveling westbound on SR 120 at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control for an unknown reason and slid off of the north side of the roadway colliding with the large concrete post.
The vehicle then burst into flames.
Once the fire was extinguished by Orland and Fremont Fire crews, the driver was located deceased inside the vehicle. The name of the driver is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. The weather was clear and roadway dry at the time of the crash which still remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
Assisting the Sheriff's Office at the scene were the Indiana State Police, Fremont Fire, Orland Fire, Steuben County EMS, and the Steuben County Coroner's Office.
