Turtle Trot 5K & Fun Run 4/22/25
Tuesday, April 22, 2025
Thanks to Chris and Jill Walworth for joining Andy St. John on WLKI 100.3.
Join the inaugural Turtle Trot 5K & Fun Run, set for May 26, 2025, at Turkey Lake Tavern in Lagrange, Indiana. This special event will honor the vibrant spirit of ConLei Walworth, a young girl whose love for turtles and Big Turkey Lake touched the hearts of all who knew her. The Turtle Trot will raise vital funds for The Cure Starts Now and the Courage for ConLei chapter, supporting research for childhood brain cancer.
ConLei, affectionately known as the “Turtle Whisperer,” captivated her community with her adventurous nature and love for wildlife. Local children often followed her on turtle hunts around the lake, inspired by her enthusiasm and friendly demeanor. Forever 13, ConLei battled a brain cancer known as DMG for 8 1/2 months with the same courage she brought to every part of her life. The Turtle Trot 5K & Fun Run will celebrate ConLei’s legacy by combining her passions for turtles and Big Turkey Lake, creating an event that is as joyful and unforgettable as she was.
The event will feature both a timed 5K race and a Fun Run/Walk, with a post-race celebration that includes raffles, a 50/50 drawing, drinks, and additional activities for all participants.
Participants can sign up to run in person or virtually, ensuring that supporters from across the country can join in the effort to raise funds for research. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit The Cure Starts Now, a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding groundbreaking research for childhood brain cancer.
“We are thrilled to honor ConLei’s memory through this event,” said the family of ConLei. “Her love for turtles, nature, and adventure left a lasting impact on everyone she met, and we are grateful for the opportunity to channel that love into something positive—funding research for a cure for childhood brain cancer.”
