Tuesday, March 31, 2020

Local government and health officials gathered in Downtown Angola Tuesday morning to address questions and concerns over the guidelines in place to help prevent further spread of the novel COVID-19 coronavirus.

Angola Mayor, Richard Hickman began the address.

Hickman once again discussed how proud he was of everyone involved, both within local government and in the healthcare industries for their tireless work in this on-going pandemic. He also discussed that local government is open for business, but area government offices are closed to the public as several workers are practicing social distancing by working from home.)

Dr. Ted Crisman with the Steuben County Health Department then addressed that Steuben County at this time has one confirmed case of COVID-19 which was confirmed over the weekend, while the case within Fremont Community Schools counts towards the Allen County total as that individual resides within the city of Fort Wayne.

Alicia vanEe, Chief Environmental Health Specialist within Steuben County discussed the steps that have been taking place to help everyone stay ahead of the virus threat.

van Ee discussed how everyone within Steuben County Emergency Management such as area police, EMS, fire departments, and several others all have worked in close cooperation with one another to ensure the safety of everyone while they are at work.

So far to date, Steuben County has issued 62 tests for COVID-19, with 35 coming back negative, one positive case, and 26 tests still pending.
