Indiana’s Unemployment Rises From September To October

(INDIANAPOLIS) – There was a slight increase in unemployment around Indiana from September to October.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says unemployment went from 4.3% in September to 4.4% in October. The national unemployment rate for October was 4.1%.
Indiana’s labor force participation rate for October is 63.2%, compared to the national rate of 62.6%. This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for work.
Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,432,973, and is at its highest on record.
October 2024 total private employment is at 2,872,900, which is an increase of 100 from September. This is a new Indiana private employment peak.
Industries that experienced job increases over the month were Leisure & Hospitality (+2,700); All Other (+800) and Private Education & Health Services (+100).
