Indiana Statewide Unemployment Rate Up In May

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana’s statewide unemployment rate went up slightly from April to May.

The Indiana Department Of Workforce Development says the unemployment rate increased from 3.6% to 3.7%.

The State’s labor force participation rate stands at 62.4% for May, which is slightly below the National rate of 62.5%. This is a percentage of Hoosiers 16 years of age and older that are either working or actively looking for work. Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,377,185. That’s a decrease of 1,679 from April.

Private sector employment in Indiana increased by 3,400 jobs from April to May. In the month of May, the Hoosier State saw a gain of 36,100 jobs over the same time last year. Indiana’s May private employment stands at 2,850,400.

Industries that experienced job increases in May included: Professional and Business Services (+1,600), Trade, Transportation and Utilities (+1,200); Construction (+700), Financial Activities (+400) and Leisure and Hospitality (+300).
